Moving to Sydney, Australia from San Francisco in 2001, Wednezday found employment as a photo double for the Trinity character in the now "middle" two Matrix films. In 2021, the National board members from UFS unexpectedly came together with the National board members from Membership First, (officially becoming "Unity" in 2023) when nearly all of them took an extreme stance completely abandoning members and ignoring their basic human right of "informed consent" Informed Consent - StatPearls - NCBI Bookshelf which prompted Ms. Ryan to step up take a stand for ALL members.
Her fight for INFORMED CONSENT began the moment the elected National Board members united to side with the producers and started stridently supporting the government's attempt to illegally mandate an untested, unproven, experimental gene therapy. Instead of consulting outside council on the fundamental and Constitutional rights of ALL Americans (i.e. EVERY member in the union) they rallied around the fallacy of, what then President Drescher coined, "Producers Privilege" neglecting to educate members on all of the options available to them and the fact that they had a legal right to say, "NO thank you" and not be punished by losing their jobs.
This was especially hard for those members with disabilities who for health reasons could not comply and suddenly found themselves ostracized and barred from working. They had absolutely no access to an interactive process, and zero accommodations were made. Wednezday has since expanded the fight of informed consent to include Digital Privacy and Artificial Intelligence. In October of 2023 she co-authored a resolution with fellow Digital Hollywood annual attendee and fellow SAG-AFTRA member Cupid Hayes titled “A Resolution to Reaffirm and Defend Member’s Right to Privacy” it was submitted by Erik Nicolaisen/Portland delegate and made it to the floor of the SAG-AFTRA National convention. To her utter disappointment it was strongly opposed by a member of the National Board who was also on the National New Technology committee who argued against it, so regretfully it did not pass.
Of late, she initiated the phone campaign to make sure that the pages in the Big Beautiful Bill regarding “the moratorium on regulating AI” got pulled out before it passed. Spending 3 solid days calling 47 senators a full two weeks before the clarion call from the union came. Before that, she registered a lengthy opinion when the government opened up the public comment on the subject of Artificial Intelligence. Currently she serves on the LA New Technology committee focused on Digital Privacy, attempting to quell the shocking amount of information a streaming platform is allowed to collect from you. A topic she continues to speak up about, loudly and often.
While working with UFS from 2008-2020, she helped for over four years on the "One Union" Campaign in support of merging SAG with AFTRA. At first this proved to be a very successful endeavor as the two unions merged and were able to combine the then split earnings to allow all monies made to qualify together for the healthcare plan. Sadly, the qualifying amount is now so high that the percentage of people able to qualify has not risen like they had promised.
She openly admits her biggest mistake is having never attempted to run for the board prior to 2023, as it limited her access to participate in the conversations in the room where recent life altering decisions were being made. Realizing that the balance of power had shifted from the membership to the executive staff during the shutdown, she was therefore rendered completely unable to give a broader perspective or to speak on behalf of those whose lives have now been gravely affected by the recent narrowly advised decisions.
It is because of the unintended consequences of the abrupt decisions being made unilaterally by the NED, as well as the lack of transparency, that she decided to fully participate in nearly every Wages and Working conditions meeting held in 2022/2023, listening as well as making sound suggestions. She has made a habit of attending these meetings every time since and encourages every member to do so as well. Previously serving on the National SAG Indie committee, the LA Host Committee, the LA Women's Committee, the National Casting Online Task Force, the LA MOVE Steering Committee, the National Conservatory Committee, the President's Task Force on Education and was a founding member of the NextGen Performers sub-committee taking it to full committee status, the MORE committee, the LA Local Member Area Committee, the LA Organizing Committee and the Los Angeles Honors & Tributes Committee she now serves on the LA New Technology Committee heading the Online Privacy Workgroup for SAG-AFTRA.
On April 17th of 2014, she organized and moderated her first panel at SAG-AFTRA called the Unspoken Rules of the Industry. On March 9, 2017 she organized and moderated her second Unspoken Rules of the Industry panel, this part two focused on "the Ever Changing Landscape of Television". The night revealed how much television has changed from the mid 80's when there were just three channels to the current 40+ networks producing original scripted content.
